Sisterly Love
This time I didn't do the travelling I had people come over.(phew).I want to take this time to thank all the people who came through for my 2011 birthday. All the calls, texts, facebook messages, those who had me in their thoughts on my special day and those who were present for the weekend all together. My sister Dadi, Sasha,Taroh drove all the way from Calgary on Friday the 12th and arrived around 2am. A long drive it was and thinking of it my sister def endured some pain as she broke her arm two weeks before the trip. She still managed to come through for her baby sister and made it.( I know she was in pain) but all the same it was a fun weekend.

Hudson's Hope: Land of Dinosaurs & Dams
We drove down to Hudson's Hope to get a tour of the W.A.C.Bennett Dam. This is the dam that runs on the Peace River and generates electricity for the Lower Mainland,City of Vancouver and export markets in the U.S. We arrived around 1:45pm a few minutes before the 2:30pm tour so we had time to drive round to the bridge and take a look at it in our car.During the construction of the dam dinosaur remains were found hence the place called the Land of Dinosaurs.
Unfortunately we couldnt take any cameras or phones for the tour.During the tour the guide tells us how the machines, turbines and all work. We also had the opportunity to walk around see some of the tunnels where the water enters, the cold temperatures down there(obviously). The tour is close to 45minutes long. After out tour we just moved around seeing dinosaurs footsteps, humongous footsteps they are.

Me reading on how electricity from the dam is generated
Quite an informing trip after we were done with our tour we had lunch in the park, just enjoying the weather and each other's company. And we were ready to live beautiful Hudson's Hope.

Bridges In Fort St John
Old Alaska Highway
I'm making it a point to be everywhere, see whats here since I don't like being left behind. The host is taking us places and we had a tour guide too (Tara). We drove towards Taylor heading towards the Old Alaska Highway. Along the way we passed through the Steel Bridge, you can feel the car shaking as the tires are not well aligned with the steel bridge.you can actually see the water if you look through the bridge. The Old Alaska Highway was built in 1942 in 9months. Before you get to Kiskatinaw Camping Gound you pass through a woden bridge. The whole bridge from down the river is all made of wood, does not shake if you pass through it and a maximum of 20tonnes is allowed on the bridge. It was scary too walk through the bridge and we walked along the river ,skipping stones in the water. So the construction of Old Alaska Highway began here and was built by American constructors hence the Mile 0, Mile 54 came from.
There are so many bridges but these are the ones that caught my eye so far in Fort St John.

Fort St John,BC Bound
Plans were made months before ,booked a car,set the day to travel and the day came. We were supposed to depart at 5:30am but working on African time we were 30minutes late as we had to drive to two different houses to pick up the other travellers. I was excited as I had told myself that summer 2011, I wanted to travel and see places around British Columbia.
I have passed through Abbottsford, Chilliwack before but never really noticed the landscape as it was the cold months of the year when it was all foggy. The landscape here was amazing, magnificent, seeing all the green hills intertwining each other.Since I had only slept for 1hr 30minutes the previous night it didn't take me long to start dosing off.I slept for like two hours and I was a bit energized to view from the passenger seat to enjoy the drive in the passenger seat. Good music was playing in the background and there were different discussions.
we made a 20minute pit stop in Clinton,BC,had our gas refueled and we were ready to go. We drove through Ashcroft a small town that has a population of 3000 people, has one grocery and really small, she was like oh my you just blink your eyes and before you know it you are already entering a different town. passed through Williams Lake.We were heading towards Hwy BC-97 N towards Quesnel.Along the way it would rain, have sunshine streaks, see cloud cover.the weather was undecided.
We arrived in Quesnel around 130pm and we decided to have lunch at the Shark Club restaurant. this gave us all a chance to stretch and get some air.Since it was sunny we decided to have our lunch by the patio. Three of us had burgers and I had a Cajun blackened chicken burger with a house salad. The food at Shark Club is DELICIOUS and quite affordable. The waiter there was like dont be fooled by the sunny skies it just might start running anytime and we were like no that cant happen, but we were wrong it did start showering a bit. 45 minutes later we were ready to embark on our road trip.
Its 6:51pm and we are 201km away from Fort St John so far it has been a good drive with good company.Nothing can beat that really. We drove through Chetwynd instead of Prince George and it was our lucky day as there was no delay on our side.the road was winding, passing through rivers, native land. I'm really enjoying the road trip in the passenger seat, singing along to songs playing on the radio, taking pictures, having eats in the car.
We arrived in Fort St John around 9pm,happy to have had a safe drive for approximately 15hours. Our host had already prepared dinner for us.

(I know I know some of you are already saying that leg)
Bluetop-Dynamite
Tights/Leggings- Mariposa
Slops-Store along Burrard (downtown)
Check out the beautiful backdrop
Trip was going well, there was no time o get bored as we had music playing, were talking in the car ,taking pictures of the beautiful landscape and I was reading my John Grisham novel- The King Of Torts. We had a moment in Hixon when we were issued a speeding ticket and demerit points..hmmm he just dampened our spirits there and the cop was just trying to find something to pin on us but he was out of luck as we had our seat belts fastened. Its 6:51pm and we are 201km away from Fort St John so far it has been a good drive with good company.Nothing can beat that really. We drove through Chetwynd instead of Prince George and it was our lucky day as there was no delay on our side.the road was winding, passing through rivers, native land. Discovering Beautiful British Columbia
SInce Vancouver is surrounded by water we had to get onto a ferry to cross over to Nanaimo.the trip to Tofino can either be taken from Nanaimo or Victoria of which to get to these places one has to get onto a ferry. So we got onto the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo which was 1hr 40minutes long. WHile on the BC Ferry time just flies by and before you know it you are arriving to your destination. So we were done with the first leg of the trip and we had to drive from Nanaimo to Tofino for close to 4hrs.
The scenery is just breathtaking. Its either you are passing throught the rainforest,on a long stretch road you can see snowcapped mountains, then stretches of clear blue water.
If you walk closer and look down you can see the stones maybe even see fish swimming. That's how clear the water is.
I enjoyed my drive to Tofino and definately recommend you pay this place a visit. No need to hurry to get there just take your sweet time to drive over and you won't regret the drive.
