Turquiose & Bantu Knots

Sunny days call for a lot of things: these include leaving my hair out, sunnies, wearing sandals and more dresses. this summer I adopted something new, instead of tonging or flat ironing my hair I have decided to do overnight Bantu knots and undo them the next day. When I undo them the next morning I got these cute curls depending on the size of Bantu knots I made. These were my first Bantu knots, I moisturized my hair with Olive oil moisturizer and sprayed some Olive Oil spray. Fortunately I loved the knots taken out but I did not know how to style my hair so i combed the front a bit and left the curls out at the back and other side.

I paired up my curled up hair with the summery turquiose dress I picked up from one of the boutiques downtown.

Coconut Cupcakes

I have been into baking a lot lately, was concentrating on perfecting my banana bread and I have since received good reviews from different people. Baking is some form of art and I enjoy it and love trying out more of the different recipes out there.

Today I decided to go back to the cupcake baking and I tried out the coconut flavored cupcakes.

Here are the ingredients:

It took me less than 10minutes to mix up the ingredients and baked them for 20-25minutes.

Below are pics of a coconut flavored and frosted cupcake

Monday Myths: Passing the Salt Shaker

Growing up there were many actions our elders forbid us to do and these have been passed from generation to generation. Some of them are are norm but some people tend to question why they were and are there and always seem to brush them off. This could be merely be cause they didn't follow them and nothing happened to them so they see no need to follow what their elders taught them.

Some myths have been put in place because of ones culture, religion or upbringing. Some would say they were put in place so that people would not break rules, not make noise etc. In the following weeks I will dedicate Mondays to telling you about some of the myths I have heard or grew up with.

To kick off Monday Myths I will start off with the one that forbade people to pass the salt shaker from one person's hand to another while eating or cooking. Elders told us that to pass the salt shaker to someone you had to place the salt shaker on a flat surface somewhere reachable to the person asking for the salt shaker. If one passed salt directly into another persons hand this would mean they would not see eye to eye and forever hate/dislike each other.

Till now some people still practice it while other people at the mere thought of hating someone because you passed the salt shaker into their hands.

Green & Black

Had a Young Women's Meeting at the end of the month April and we all had to introduce ourselves and tell our favorite color. I jokingly said GREEN was my color for now but its coming to pass as the color that has caught my eye of late.

African Fusion

A friend was celebrating her birthday and we decided to celebrate it by going to enjoy some Kenyan food.(She's Kenyan too but hadn't visited Simba's Restaurant located in Vancouver downtown.

Happy Birthday Miss Kenya(beautiful smile)
(decided to wear my recent African attire)
It was kind of chilly hence me not removing my knee high jacket, also decided to pair my skirt with a different top instead of the matching top.Love the pink and green combinations on the skirt and the pleats too.

Day was kind of packed as we kicked it off by attending the mid morning church service, went to the Science World to watch the 3D Arabia movie. Lastly we met up with a bunch of other friends and we went to Simba's for dinner.
We call it Sadza in Zimbabwe but in Kenya they call it Ugali
Chicken Kebobs, Rice and Salad

Enjoyed the food and enjoyed the live singing we had throughout the dinner. Tried out the Rose petal ice cream which does taste and smell like the rose too.
